Democrats Abroad Action Team UK has launched with a series of actions on Health Care. As you know, the American Health Care Act (or Trumpcare) could cause 23 million people to lose their health insurance. Health insurance costs will rise for the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions.

Women will lose their contraception coverage. Medicaid would be gutted. In an effort to bypass the criticisms of the bill, Senator McConnell has invoked Rule XIV, a fast track procedural step that moves the bill directly to the floor of the Senate without committee hearings.  This bill must be stopped.

We are asking you to call both of their Senators and urge them to vote against the AHCA. Never called your Member of Congress? We have you covered.

Here is a script you can use. Share your story and let your Senators know how the repeal of the Affordable Care Act will affect you or your family.

If your Senator supports the ACHA or has no public opinion on the bill:

Hello,

My name is [your name] and I am a constituent of Senator [Senator’s name]. I am calling to ask that the Senator oppose the ACHA and any health care bill that contains similar provisions. This bill will strip insurance coverage from at least 23 million people and undermine protections for people with pre-existing conditions, women, and the elderly. [Share a personal story about how this health care vote will impact you, your family, or friends.] Further, I ask that the Senator vote down any bill that does not have a CBO score, has not gone through a committee process, or that has not been made available to the public for review and comment. Thank you for your time.

If your Senator opposes the ACHA:

Hello,

My name is [your name] and I am a constituent of Senator [Senator’s name]. I am calling to thank the Senator for [his/her] opposition to the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. [Share a personal story about how this health care vote will impact you, your family, or

friends.] Twenty-three million Americans are counting on the Senator and [his/her] colleagues to preserve their access to health insurance. Thank you for your time.

For our second action, we ask that you share this script with five Americans. They can be friends, family members, other Americans living overseas, or people back home. We can multiply the force of our activism by encouraging others to take part. Finally, join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/actionteamuk/ for regular activist updates. Let us know how your calls went and invite other Americans you know to join.

The Action Team is a follow on to the DAUK Women's  Caucus ACTIVIST HAPPY HOUR
